Stuff To Do
Some things are just TOO Philly to pass up!! You must, at least once:
• Watch the sunset from the South Street Bridge (between 27th and 33rd streets) or shop and people watch along the east end of South Street.
• Bike/Blade/Run on Kelly Drive...then come back at night to check out the sparkling boathouses of Boat House Row.
• Tour Betsy Ross House and Elfreth's Alley (one of the oldest continuously inhabited residential streets in the country).
• Take a photo infront of the Liberty Bell and then take a tour of Independence Hall.
• Ride Smarty Jones or Afleet Alex on the Philadelphia Park Liberty Carousel or play a round of mini-golf at Franklin Square.
• Hear the true stories of history right where they happened at the renowned storytelling benches in Independence National Historical Park, offered by Once Upon A Nation and then at night experience the American Revolution at the Lights of Liberty Show.
• Splash in the fountain at Love Park (just don't get caught as it may be a finable offense).
• Take a book out of the Philadelphia Free Public Library, the oldest free library in America.
• Run up the stairs of the Philadelphia Museum of Art (a la Rocky), and then go on inside to check out the actual art.
• Visit the street Rocky ran down and while you are there enjoy a fantastic meal or get some ingredients to make your own fantastic meal at the Italian Market.
• Visit Reading Terminal Market for lunch and while you are there shop in one of the largest, freshest, liveliest public markets you will ever see.
• Take an architectural walking tour of the city, and don't miss those Frank Furness buildings.
• Annoy all the locals for an hour or so as you quack away on the quack-tacular Philly Duck Tour.
• Eat dinner at your local BYOB (Philly is fast becoming the best BYO-city in the country!)
• Head down to the numerous art galleries in Old City for First Friday.
• Take in the Mutter Museum and see its collection of Medical Oddities.
• Hike in Fairmount Park (try the Wissahickon Gorge or other sections of Forbidden Drive).
• Spend a Sunday sun-bathing in Rittenhouse Square (bring a blanket as many dogs live in the area), or take in a late summer Wednesday night concert.
• Tailgate at an Eagles game or enjoy a summer evening at the Ball Park cheering on the Phillies.
• If indoor sports are more your thing - Philadelphia's own Sixers, Flyers, Phantoms and Soul play home games at the Comcast Center around the year.
• Check out a concert or cultural event at Penn's Landing
• Visit the Magic Garden at 1020 South Street and see Isaiah Zagar's incredible garden studio complex.
• Walk through a giant beating heart at the Franklin Institute.
• Eat a cheese steak at Pat's or Geno's (or both and decide for yourself which is better) followed by a water ice in South Philly.
